Courses Overview

This class supports cross-curricular learning through creative, hands-on art projects that connect with Language Arts, Science, and History. Students will explore concepts such as color mixing and the science of color, map making, community design, and even weather-inspired art! As they complete weekly projects (with no homework), students will strengthen basic drawing skills, develop spatial awareness, and expand their imaginations.

Materials

*Materials may be purchased privately or with educational funds.

  • A set of watercolor paints
  • A variety of brushes
  • Colored construction paper
  • A set of markers (ideally with fine tips and also large tips)
  • Three black superfine point Sharpies
  • A pad of watercolor paper
  • A sketchbook (11×14 is ideal, but smaller will work)
  • Some scratch paper and a stylus to scratch with
  • Colored pencils (ideally watercolor pencils)
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Model Magic Clay–white or colors
  • A container to start collecting old pieces of junk like buttons, small toy pieces, bottle caps, etc. (this is for junk art)
  • A few sheets of graph paper (can be printed)
  • White craft paint (can be an acrylic bottle of white)
