What inspired you to become a teacher, and what do you enjoy most about teaching your subject?
Years ago, when my son was small, I was fascinated as he discovered new things and was learning language. It inspired me to become a teacher! Watching his process of learning made me realize how powerful and important education is in shaping a child’s life. It sparked the desire to help other children experience that same joy of learning.
What I enjoyed most about my years as a teacher was building strong relationships with my students and creating an environment where the learner felt safe, valued and felt genuine hope about their learning.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of the classroom?
My family is such a treasure to me and has grown to include two grandsons-time with them fills my heart with joy! I love being outdoors, listening to music, and expressing myself through different crafts. Because I’m a lifelong learner, I’ve been really enjoying the adventure of learning to cook the last few years. I’m always grateful for opportunities to grow, discover and create.
What was your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject in school was writing. I’ve also always loved spelling and using written language to express ideas and tell stories and songs. In my later years, I also discovered a love of math. What started as something that once felt challenging became exciting as I realized how much problem-solving and creativity math can involve. All of this shaped the way I think and learn to this day.
