Adjustments Due to Weather and Fire Conditions

We hope this message finds you safe and well. Due to the serious weather and fire conditions in LA County, some of our teachers, students, and families are experiencing evacuations or are under the possibility of evacuations.

As a result, there may be course cancellations or substitute instructors for some classes over the next few days. We understand if your student is unable to attend class during this challenging time. Please know that we will provide recorded videos for any non-canceled classes your student missed to ensure continuity in learning.

For tutoring students, families will be notified via email or text if a tutor needs to cancel. If your student cannot attend a session, please cancel if possible.

We understand the challenges posed by these severe conditions, and sessions missed due to these circumstances can be rescheduled, provided the tutor can accommodate.

The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities. If you have any concerns or need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Stay safe, and thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

What inspired you to become a teacher, and what do you enjoy most about teaching your subject?

I got into teaching because I want to inspire children to reach their full potential and I want to make a positive difference in their lives. I love teaching and learning about history because I always learn something new; right alongside my students!

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of the classroom?

I enjoy working out, fishing, tubing, visiting museums, reenacting, watching hockey, and spending time with my family.

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject in school was and still is history. My love of history began by learning stories of my family such as my great grandfather, an immigrant from Russia, who served in the United States Army during World War I. I love learning about their stories of where we have been as it a guide as to where we are going.

Anything else we should know about you?

This is my 21st year in education. I am credentialed in two states: California and Georgia (where I currently reside). I have taught 7 years in the traditional classroom, facilitated 12 years at a PBL Charter School, and this will be my 3rd year as an online instructor. I love learning and I always learn something new; right alongside my students!
