What inspired you to become a teacher, and what do you enjoy most about teaching your subject?
My inspiration for being a teacher definitely comes from my mother. She was a third grade teacher for all of my childhood. Asides from seeing her teaching in the classroom, the biggest impact I saw was the long-lasting effects she had on her students. Students that were well into their adult years remembered her, and were very appreciative of how she helped shape them into positive contributors to society. This made me realize how meaningful us teachers are, and how important we are to the development of the students we work with. I’m grateful that I am now able to work directly with students myself, share my passions with them, and help nurture their own interests.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of the classroom?
I enjoy playing video games of all types, either alone or with my two children, as well as exercise and sports. I also enjoy taking road trips to new destinations throughout my home state of New Mexico.
What was your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject in school is a tie between math or science. I enjoyed both equally. I love that both help explain the world around me and can be used to solve a multitude of problems.
