Adjustments Due to Weather and Fire Conditions

We hope this message finds you safe and well. Due to the serious weather and fire conditions in LA County, some of our teachers, students, and families are experiencing evacuations or are under the possibility of evacuations.

As a result, there may be course cancellations or substitute instructors for some classes over the next few days. We understand if your student is unable to attend class during this challenging time. Please know that we will provide recorded videos for any non-canceled classes your student missed to ensure continuity in learning.

For tutoring students, families will be notified via email or text if a tutor needs to cancel. If your student cannot attend a session, please cancel if possible.

We understand the challenges posed by these severe conditions, and sessions missed due to these circumstances can be rescheduled, provided the tutor can accommodate.

The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities. If you have any concerns or need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Stay safe, and thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

History, Grade 6

Courses Overview

Based on California Social Studies Standards, our 6th-grade course explores ancient civilizations. Students engage in project-based activities while exploring Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. They analyze geography, culture, and history and discuss how these civilizations shaped today’s world. Through critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, students research, present, and reflect on their learning.

Materials

Three major parts of the organization for 6th-grade history are the student planner, binder, and online platform. All projects, tests/quizzes, assignments, and their corresponding due dates are to be recorded in a planner of the students choosing on the day they are assigned. The student’s binder will be used to keep class notes (unless specified by the teacher), classwork, and anything else used throughout the year.

We will use novels throughout the year to enhance our understanding of the various civilizations and cultures we study.
