Social Studies, Grade 3

Courses Overview

This project-based 3rd-grade social studies course enables students to understand big ideas by making them applicable to their lives. For example, when learning about the importance of the United States Constitution and its principles, students might create their own “Classroom Constitution.” Besides government, topics include important historical figures and their contributions, the local history of American Indians, the significance of American symbols, and the basics of the local economy.

In this course, students will:

  • Identify and discuss the rights, responsibilities, and rules needed to establish and maintain a healthy, respectful, and inclusive community.
  • Use critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills as they research, present, and reflect on their learning.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the principles of democracy using project-based learning.
